Daniel Tong
Piano / Music theory
M. Mus, University of British Columbia; Owner of Queensbury Village Music

Daniel Tong is a graduate of the University of British Columbia’s School of Music (M. Mus, B. Mus), where he studied with Prof. Mark Anderson as his primary mentor and for pedagogical studies, and Prof. Rena Sharon for chamber music studies.

An active professional musician, Daniel has frequented and performed at music festivals and competitions across Canada. In the biennial Silverman Piano Concerto Competition at UBC, Daniel was a finalist in both the 2024 and 2020 editions, competing alongside top Canadian young classical musicians and appearing with the UBC Symphony Orchestra in the final round in 2024.

Daniel’s musical career has taken him to a variety of events at distinguished concert venues across Canada, including the Chan Centre of Performing Arts where he was one of five pianists featured in the 5 Piano Fantasy concert in 2023. In 2025 and 2023, he attended the Scotia Festival of Music in Hailfax, performing in the Young Artist Concert Gala at Dalhousie University’s Joseph Strug Hall. In 2021, Daniel performed with his chamber ensemble at the Salle de Concert du Domaine Forget in Quebec.

During Daniel’s studies and travels, he has had the opportunity to work with and receive insights from nationally and internationally renowned classical artists through master-classes and workshops. These artists include Philip Chiu, Filippo Gorini, Andrew Armstrong, David Moroz, and Peter Allen.

A near life-long resident of Vancouver, he is musically active in the community, especially on the North Shore where he resides, playing for churches, engaging in projects with other musicians as a collaborative pianist, and teaching his piano students, which is something he greatly enjoys and in whom he hopes to instil a life-long curiosity and love for music. Daniel’s students have the opportunity to perform in student recitals on a biannual basis, and his students have previously received high standings in RCM exams.

As a passionate music educator, Daniel believes that through the study of music, one can develop focus, methodical problem solving skills, connect with one’s own emotions on a deeper level as well as empathize with the stories and emotions of others.

…but most of the time, Daniel simply relishes in sharing the joy, laughter, and inspiration that learning music brings, and he hopes his students pass on the same positivity to others!
