Hyeonbeen is a Korea-born violist who recently earned her Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of British Columbia. She previously completed her Bachelor’s degree at the UBC School of Music with high distinction under the mentorship of Marina Thibeault. During her graduate studies, she received musical guidance from Emilie Grimes and Professor Ryan Davis.
A recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, Hyeonbeen was awarded the bronze medal at the 2023 Vancouver International Music Competition. She has participated in prestigious summer music programs including the VSO Institute at Whistler (2018), VSO Virtual Institute (2020), Domaine Forget (2023), and the Kessler Academy (2024). In the summer of 2025, she joined and gained broader perspectives on performing and teaching through Kinhaven’s Young Artist Seminar Program and Orchestra North in Prince George.
Hyeonbeen has performed in masterclasses for world-renowned artists such as the Emerson String Quartet, Viano Quartet, Ivo-Jan Van der Werff, Lynn Ramsey, and Jennifer Stumm, gaining invaluable artistic insight. As an emerging musician, she is passionate about using music’s healing and unifying power to inspire and serve her communities.
